Mission Statement

The Universal Learning Design International Conference 2011, held on 8–11 February 2011 in Brno to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Teiresias Centre at Masaryk University, provided the first opportunity for a practical presentation of the universal accessibility design of tertiary education and a possibility to share experience with professionals who take care of the practical matters and thus technologically, organizationally, legally, linguistically, psychologically or pedagogically provide for the universal learning design at the university level in Europe as well as other parts of the world. The conference proved that the concept of education for all is in the centre of attention of many educational institutions and specialist organizations but it is understood in many different ways and there is no consensus about what is a realistic goal and how it can be achieved. Therefore, Masaryk University is ready to follow up the first year of the conference and to organize other events of this type in the following years. As one of the possible solutions is to draw the attention of researchers and developers of technologies aiming at satisfying specific human needs to the field of inclusive education, the teams of organizers of the Universal Learning Design conference in Brno and the International Conference on Computers Helping People with Special Needs in Linz have decided to bring the two conferences together. Following this agreement, the 2nd year of the Universal Learning Design conference will take place on 11-13 July, 2012, as one of the special tracks of the 13th ICCHP conference. The team of organizers from Masaryk University will be responsible for the technical and organizational aspects of the ULD 2012 conference at Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria.
